FAQs

  1. How long will it take my child to swim?

We get this question all the time in India! The truth is, we need to think about what we are trying to accomplish. A child will start talking around 1 by saying a few words, “mamma or papa” but this doesn’t mean we stop teaching them to speak, they will continue on all throughout elementary and high school studying their native language. The same goes for any subject, math, or even swimming. It is also important to keep in mind every child is different. Some children will have accomplished something if they finally enter the pool and not cry for a class, this accomplishment of over coming their fear is not to be viewed as a minor thing. Other children have no fear and can easily begin floating but will benefit from being in a fun class that also has directions they must listen and learn to follow to be safe and learn new skills. We are not a sports class but a child development class that incorporates, singing, music, colors, shapes, numbers, following orders, all while being in the pool and learning water safety and swim techniques. 2. How long are classes?

    30 minutes

  3. Can babies really learn to swim?

Going back to the question, “how long will it take my child to learn to swim,” we have to remember our goal is not just swimming but an entire child development program. Having said that, we do see children as young as 4 months who can successfully move several feet under water unassisted.

  6. Is the chlorine safe for my baby?

All over the world millions of children have learned swimming. We suspect that there is no difference between kids in the USA, UK, Australia, Europe etc. vs kids in India! Of course there are very rare cases where children may have a rash to chlorine but not something we have ever seen. We also make sure that all our swimming locations have proper pH and chlorine levels to prevent bacteria’s from growing.

  7. Who are the teachers?

    Please read 'About Instructors'

  8. What is teacher to student ratio?

Most classes are 7:1 if parent is entering the pool. Classes where parents do not enter the pool are 3:1 ratios.

  9. Do I have to enter the pool?

If your child is in a class that requires parent to enter the pool then YES!!! YOU MUST ENTER THE POOL. If mother is unable to enter the pool for any reason, then please make proper arrangements to have someone else enter the pool as we do not provide accommodations for unaccompanied child. Father’s are welcome to enter the pool as are cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles and nanny. However, we have noted that when a nanny in India enters into the class, the child does not receive the maximum benefit as the classes are only taught in English and often times the nannies feel quite shy to fully participate as we use progressive educational methods and especially being in a pool often times makes them feel uncomfortable, however, we have no restrictions against this and welcome everyone with the same love and respect, yet at the same time, will encourage you not to have a nanny enter who will feel awkward in the class making the child very insecure. Also, if you are sending an older child into the water, that child must be tall enough to hold their younger sibling in the water without having their mouth go in.

  10. What is the makeup policy?

We do not provide makeups due to heavy demand and long wait list.

  11. What if I don’t know how to SWIM? Can I still enter into the water with my child?

Yes! We find that most our parents in India, do not know how to swim. Our swim classes are taught in 4 ft of water so it’s fine for you to enter. It’s more important that you do not put your fear of water onto your child. Be confident and calm!

  12. What if my child has a special needs? Can they still take a lesson?

YES!!! We welcome all children no matter if they have autism, down, blind, paralyzed or any other special need. Di Fiore has been working with children with special needs since 2001 and has been working with special needs in the water since 2009. We invite you to join a class with children who do not have special needs or if you feel more comfortable to setup a private class or with other children with special needs we may look into this option but there is no restriction in joining a mainstream class and we welcome you and your child and fully understand and appreciate the level they will advance in.
